Besieged Gaza, Occupied Palestine 23 November 2014 --We, The Palestinian Students' Campaign for the Academic Boycott of Israel (PSCABI), would like to commend Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and the student groups at UCLA for their principled stance and resolute efforts which resulted in the recent landslide UCLA vote, 8-2-2, for a resolution to divest from 11 companies that are overtly complicit in Israel’s illegal occupation and basic human rights violations.
Students in occupied and besieged Gaza have warmly received this UCLA student divestment success especially that it comes in the awake of the latest bloody 51-day assault on Gaza in which the Israeli forces committed war crimes and slaughtered more than 2,100 Palestinians, including more than 500 children.
We thoroughly understand the abrasive pressure, fierce opposition and belligerent campaigns you faced from the Zionist group Hillel and other Israeli lobby groups to reverse your position. Therefore, PSCABI wishes to acknowledge, with gratitude, the determined efforts of all the students who have diligently and strategically worked on passing this motion.
We are inspired by your consistent and unrelenting commitment to human rights and freedom —a commitment so powerfully expressed in your work—you have chosen to stand on the right side of history. We look forward to the day when the University of California, and all universities in the United States and around the world, will divest from companies profiting from Israel’s occupation, colonization and apartheid and end their institutions’ and states’ complicity in Israel’s oppression as well as in human rights violations everywhere. We urge you not to bow to pressure to reverse your principled stance, and to pursue BDS actions against Israel’s regime as long as it continues its apartheid policies.
With much respect and deep appreciation,
